The last time you rode a horse and what you did
Sadly, the last time I actually rode a horse was 2 years ago. I took a hiatus from riding because of finances and some anxieties I had after a fall that nearly wrecked all of my confidence I had while riding. Now 2 years later, I’m craving the sport so bad and I think my depression would definetly improve if I can just get back to riding again. Unfortunatley, time and finances are not really working in my favor, so I’m hoping to start back up again once the mess of college acceptances and other activities are out of the way. Thankfully though, I think I have overcome my anxieties, so as soon as I get the okay from my parents, I’m heading straight back to my barn (I still consider it my barn since I’m only taking a break, and they send me e-mail updates still) and getting back in the saddle!
Anyway, from what I recall, I knew it was going to be my last lesson for a bit so my trainer let me relax for most of the lesson. I trotted most of the time, doing some exercises with Justin, and towards the end of the lesson, in order to “leave on a good foot” I took him over a cross rail. I can’t wait to start riding again so I can have a better, more recent memory that I’ve ridden.

Ahhhh tumblr challenges! And a horse one, at that.
When and Why you started riding
Cue tangent: I’ll try and be as brief as I can. I don’t really know what it was, but for as long as I can remember I have been one of those horse crazy kids. Even in preschool I was always playing with the little toy horses and running about the playground making whinnying noises. When I was about 4, my mom enrolled me in a type of “horse class” where you learned the basics about horses as well as breeds, anatomy, styles of riding, horse care, etc. Eventually, the class began taking trips to the teacher’s barn where she kept a few horses. The first time I sat on a horse was when I was about 4 or 5, can’t really remember which one. The horse was a big black Quarter horse named Sparky. As soon as I sat on his back, it was love, and thus my passion for riding really began. At about 6 or 7 I began taking off and on lessons at a barn near my house. Why did I ride? Well…I loved horses and I loved the feeling of being on their back and staring at the world from that incredible perspective.
